Applaud the singer

Yes folks, Peter Gene Hernandez otherwise known as Bruno Mars, is one talented musician. Not only does he sing and write songs but he's a music producer too! So why is he so recognized today? Because of all his achievements and hard work: he co-wrote the hooks of the songs "Nothing on you" by B.O.B., "Billionaire" by Travie McCoy as well as co-wrote "Right round" by Flo Rida feat. Kesha and "Waving Flag" by K'naan (which was one of the songs that was played repeatedly for the World Cup 2010) and many more!

What I find that makes his such a talented musician is the fact that he plays so many instruments! He can play the piano, keyboards, drums, guitar (acoustic AND electric) and the congas! And of course, his soulful voice! It leaves you with goosebumps! Don't believe me? You all know Katy Perry's "California Girls" song? Listen to Bruno Mars' cover and tell me that isn't stupendous! I like Katy Perry and all, but Mr. Mars puts her to shaaaame!

Now for my favorite part... Bruno Mars was born in October 8, 1985 and was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, to a father of Puerto Rican descent and a mother of... wait for it... Filipina descent! (Represent! For those of you who don't know, my mother is Filipina too!) He is one of SIX children, big family eh? Both his parents were performers and so he was always surrounded by music. At a young age he would impersonate and perform songs by the top artists such as Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, The Isley Brothers and The Temptations! Shortly after graduating high school at the age of seventeen he took off for L.A. with big dreams of pursuing a musical career. His father used to call him "Bruno" as a nickname, and so when it came time to adopt a stage name he added "Mars" to that as he says that a lot of girls would say that "he was out of this world."

He is currently nominated for SEVEN grammys at the 53rd Grammy Awards which will be held in February 13th, 2011. I, personally, am in LOVE with this singer and his utterly moving vocals and I hope he wins! Check out a couple of my favorite songs by Mr. Mars himself:

  • Long distance (I have not been able to stop listening to this song for days now!)
Also, check out the impersonation Bruno Mars did of Elvis Presley at the age of SIX!
